Error 1053 - Event log service will not start
On my Windows 7 SP1 workstation, the event log service will not start. If I try to start it manually, it immediately fails with "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." I do not have any event logs because of this error.
How do I correct this?

Event Log does not start
Event Log does not start even though it is set to automatic on startup. This also appears to prevent Task Scheduler and Event Viewer from starting as they dependent on Event Log. When I go to Services and click on Windows Event Log and then Start the service I get this error message:-
"Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error2: The system cannot find the file specified"
I don't know how long it has been like this (possibly several months) so I am not sure if there is any appropriate restore point to revert to.
I've done a search on this problem. There was previously a similar issue on Vista whereby the solution was to delete an extraneous registry key. This solution doesn't appear to apply in Windows 7.Read More ...

Event log - multiple errors
I have had a few BSOD on a secondary networked PC I use for some add on apps. I am pretty sure they are hardware related, but I was looking at the Event Log and it is reporting multiple errors connected with the Service Control Manager. The text is as follows :-
"The WinPcap Packet Driver (NPF) service failed to start due to the following error:

The log show this has occurred 77,645 times in the last 24 hours !! There are approx 700 entries of :-

My event log is jam-packed with errors! because my profile PC keeps freezing/locking up. What does event 1001, fault bucket 1514911642, type 5, event name: ServiceHang mean? . also event 1001, fault bucket 2171773997, type 5, name: AppHangB1 .

These are in the application logs. in the administrative events viewer, however, there seems to be a pattern of errors prior to the "kernel-power" event 41, of system needing to be rebooted without cleanly shutting down (due to crashing):

Third: event 2, kernel-event tracing error: session "homegroup log" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035
Fourth: the warning that the system had to be rebooted.

Not start the windows update service. error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect
I cannot get windows to update. I have used windows update agent fix it tool, but it always gets an error when trying to run it. I have tried turning off all firewalls and AV programs, but still cannot update.
When going to services.msc, it shows update service as stopped. when I try to start it, I get the message: 'Windows could not start the windows update service on local computer. error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect'
When I click check updates under the windows update program, it says can't update due to service not running.
I have checked my ipv6 and ipv4, and both are setup to automatic I have tried using tdsskiller to ensure no rootkits are present, and I'm clean. I ran AV scans and spyware scans, but all come up clean.
I have ran system file checker, and chkdsk, but both were fine. According to my update log, my last successful update was Dec 15, 2011. I including my update log for reference.

Several Service Control Manager Issues (Event ID's 7000, 7009, 7011)
Starting-up Windows first thing each day is slowly, well, getting slower. Went into the Event Log and wondering what may need to be done to fix/repair the following Service Control Manager issues:
Event ID 7011: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SftService service.
Event ID 7009: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X86 service to connect. (This appears three times)
Event ID 7009: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the ShellHWDetection service. (This appears three times)
Event ID 7000: The Dell Digital Delivery Service service failed to start due to the following error:

Event Log Service missing on Windows 7 machine
I am trying to reactivate my event log service that was missing from my machine. I do have the file itself "C:\Windows\System32\wevtsvc.dll". installed a couple of related HotFixes -- currently installed the 6.1.7601.21772 version of the file.
Yet, the service isn't running -- I tried running that using the "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted" -- But I didn't know where to look for a log for an error that might occur while running that.
In addition I followed a couple of guide lines allowing access of the administrators to the LogFiles/RtBackup directory. Without success either. the service just won't run.
When running the mmc Computer Management tool -- it doesn't of course present the Event Viewer -- due to the lack of the Event Log Service which isn't running.
How can I reconstruct the service?Read More ...
Windows 7 firewall service will not start. Event ID 7024
I am a pretty technical user, and I am really struggling with this issue, and I wasn't 100% sure which section to post this in. I used to share videos over my network with multiple xboxs and a ps3.

After doing so, the Windows 7 firewall service will not start. If I look at the event log, it gives me Event ID 7024 : The Windows Firewall service terminated with service-specific error Access is denied. I have run the norton removal tool, and this has not fixed the problem.Read More ...

ReadEventLog problem on Windows 7
I have an application that calls ReadEventLog(). It works fine on Windows XP and 2003 server, but not on Windows 7 or 2008. I must continue supporting the older versions of windows in addition to the newer, so I can't move to the newer Event Log APIs.
The problem is that in some cases NumStrings is 0 even though there are strings in the event. An example is when I start or stop the telnet server, an event goes into the application log from the telnet server and in the system log from the service controller.
ReadEventLog gives me the right data from the system log, but gives me no strings from the application log. GetEventLog returns the event, but NumStrings is 0.Read More ...
Cannot start Windows Firewall Service.
I have often come here in the past to help me with various tech related woes, But now I do since I can no longer turn my Windows Firewall Service on, through any means in which one can do so under normal circumstances.
I'm running Windows Vista SP2. From Windows Security Centre it tells me "Security Centre can't turn on Windows Firewall." From Windows Firewall it tells me "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running.
Do you want to start the Windows Firewall Service?" then when I click yes "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall Service." when trying to start it manually from Administrative Tools \ Services it tells me "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer.
Review the System Event Log." and the only thing Windows Firewall related I have been able to find in the Event Log is "The Windows Firewall Service was unable to retrieve the security policy from the local storage. The service will continue enforcing the current policy.

Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running
I'm having some problems with event viewer. When I go to open it, it gives me the "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running." error. I've tried going through the steps Microsoft gives for creating new log files if yours are corrupted. Problem is, the .evt file doesn't exist.
I've researched the problem a lot and I do have UxStyle Core installed which is patching the files necessary to install third party themes, and I have heard that this may cause some issues with the event log, but everyone I saw undo any patching and even rollback updates, go to previous restore points, etc.
Could not seem to fix it no matter what. The fix Microsoft gives seems to be the only option that has been helping people, but I can't use it given my situation.Read More ...

Unable to Set Startup Type to Automatic (Delayed Start) for "Windows Event Log" Service
I would like to know how to set the Startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start) for the Windows Event Log service on Windows 7 (64-bit). When I tried to do this, I got this error message:
"The Delayed auto-start flag could not be set."
"Error 87: The parameter is incorrect."
Why I Want to Do This:
I want to do this is because I've found out that this service causes a slow startup on my computer.
When I Enable This Service in msconfig.exe:
- I have to wait about 2 minutes before an internet connection can be established and a browser can be opened after I log on to Windows. Some other applications, such as Windows Update, cannot be opened as well during this wait time.
When I Disable This Service in msconfig.exe:
- I can open a browser or any other application right away after I log on to Windows.
How can I set the Startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start)? Is this service important? Is it safe to disable this service?Read More ...
