Backup Fails With Error 0x81000037 - Error manifest or policy file MsiCofire.dll
Trying Windows 7 backup to a network drive several times, the backup seems to work OK until it gets to creating a system image and then it hangs and fails. This is the error in the Event Viewer: "Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up.
Please check in the event logs for any relevant errors. (0x81000037)." According to the Event Viewer the SidebySide application threw two errors during the backup.
The first one says:

Backup on external HDD - error: 0x81000037
I am trying to run a Windows Backup to my external hard drive (file system formatted to NTFS). It begins fine but gets to 25% and terminates with the following error “Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up.
Please check in the event logs for the relevant errors. I have tried turning off my antivirus software….originally I was getting a warning at the same time the backup stopped that there was a threat.
I made sure my SSP Notification Service and Volume Shadow Copy were on Automatic (one trouble shooting tip suggested). The last option I have been trying is the suggestion of checking my reparse points and deleting the folder if it says Mounted Volume.
I can view my reparse points (Junction) by clicking Start, typing CDM and hitting enter, then typing DIR/AL/S as the command prompt and hitting enter again.
Quite a few points come up. The next step is what I don’t get (I can follow directions but am not what you’d call tech savvy)… it says to locate the reparse points found in the search and click properties on the reparse point icon then delete the folder if the type is mounted volume.Read More ...
The backup fails at 97% Error 0x81000037
This has been occurring for the last month or more. The backup fails at 97% reporting the subject code consistently. I googled it and came up with a repair procedure which I won't bother to repeat. Why? It's so baffling as to be utterly useless except perhaps to the writer.
I am very computer savvy and familiar with registry and Command Prompt work.Read More ...
The backup failed: Incorrect function. 0x80070001, 0x81000037, or 0x80070003
I have a Windows 7 64-bit system and have been successfully using Windows backup on an approximately monthly basis. I ran it before going to bed last night and woke up to a "The backup failed." when I tried to create a system image of both of my hard discs. The error is "Incorrect function. (0x80070001)".
Windows backup or restore errors 0x80070001, 0x81000037, or 0x80070003 and looked up and found a number of "junction points", most rooted at c:\Users\Dilip\AppData - but the problem is that there is no such folder. What can I do next to solve this problem?Read More ...
Backup Failure - Error code: 0x81000037 on one of the volumes being backed up
Running on Windows 7 64-bit for over a year now and in the past 2 months I noticed an error message popped up after I attempted a back-up, and it displayed the following: Check your backup
Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up. Please check in the event logs for any relevant errors.
My target backup location is an internal 2TB WD HD that was designated as the D: drive. After this issue appeared I naturally searched online and attempted several different solutions, including the complete deletion of the old back-up (in case it had been corrupted), however each time the result was the same: it almost completes backing up. then fails with the same error code.Read More ...

Backing up system image, error 0x81000037
I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 home premium installed and I tried to backup a system image to a brand new portable hard drive. However, whenever I try to backup, the backup fails and says error 0x81000037.
I looked online and some people mentioned performing a full scan on the computer. I started a full scan on Windows Defender because I haven't bought any antivirus software but the scan has currently been running for 20 hours and isn't finished yet. Backup to a USB attached 500GB HDD failed error: 0x81000037
I have the same problem trying to do a Backup to a USB attached 500GB harddrive. I've used msconfg to turn off all but MS services and eliminate the normal startup items, but Backup still fails reading the shadow copy.
This system came with Vista Ultimate 64 installed, and backup worked fine. The OEM supplied me with the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 upgrade which I installed with no problems, except for the Backup failure.
The backup failure was not noted until approximately a month after the installation was complete.Read More ...
Backup Fails 0x81000037 - event ids: 14 and 51
I accidentally put my Windows 7 Ultimate machine into sleep mode while Windows Backup was running. Every time I try to run Backup now, it gets about halfway through and then fails with the error code 0x81000037. The event viewer shows a warning and an error:
First the warning: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation. (Source: Disk. Event 51). Next comes the error: The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an IO failure on volume C:.
(Source volsnap. Event 14). This has happened once before, and running chkdsk fixed it. I've tried running chkdsk but with no success this time. I'm pretty sure it's a filesystem problem, not a hardware problem because I have run several diagnostic tools on the hard drive (including seatools for DOS) and none report any issues with the drive.
To be sure, I took a full system image and restored it to a different hard drive. Backup still doesn't work. I tried running chkdsk without any success.
I've also tried backing up to an external hard drive instead of my NAS, but that didn't solve it either. I love Windows 7.Read More ...

Backup with 0x8078012D and 0x81000037 errors
I have been trying to have Windows 7 perform backup of libraries - personal folders, system image, & outlook. It runs for about an hour and then fails with the error 0x8078012D. If I remove the Outlook folder and try again It runs for about an hour and fails with the error 0x81000037.
The first error points to a problem with either the source or the destination disk and for me to do a chkdsk /R on both, which I have done (on several occasions) and the report returned no errors found on either of them.
If I remove System Image from the fold the backup runs ok and completes, defeating the purpose. Also I have noted that backup will not backup programs or any files in the registry which form part of those programs, meaning if a crash happens I have to re-install those programs from scratch.
Is there a program that will backup the programs and their files in the registry which does not cost an arm, and a leg?
I have dealt with microsoft on this issue, and in one instance while supposedly "Cleaning" the Partition "G:" he cleaned the entire disk, F, G, H, wiping the partitions and ALL of their files.
Some of those files were the program installation files which were purchased from the net (No CD copy) the registration or license keys and Proof of Purchase were all in the individual folders. they have not been retrieved.Read More ...
Backup Error 0x81000037 - CSdBackupImpl::Run FAILED" "CSdAsync::OnRun FAILED
I can not backup up my system. I have a 400GB USB drive ready to do so, but it fails repeatedly. I have researched this, and despite what has been offered, nothing is working. I have turned off real-time protection on my Microsoft Security Essentials, I had a clear quarantine and no other virii showing. Still fails with the same error. I currently have these links:
There are some .zip files in these reparse points. And I don't think I can get rid of them. It's kind of hard to not have them under the C:\Documents and Settings reparse point. It's nice that there is a log of the backup.
It'd be nicer to either have it human readable, or give us the utility to read it. Although at the end of one that I can tell, it says "CSdBackupImpl::Run FAILED" "CSdAsync::OnRun FAILED"Read More ...
Keep receiving backup failed / error code 0x81000037
Due to mother-board dying & replaced, (I have a Dell, Windows pro 7), I also started receiving the error message. I finally decided to stop ignoring the other messages, 'create system image' & create the 'repair Disc', so I opened the clicked the 'Dell Backup & Restore Manager & completed those two tasks.
I then, (poured myself a large glass of wine & settled in for another session of 'trying' to resolve that backup error code), I opened the 'Dell Backup & Restore Manager again & clicked on 'backup' AND the backup completed!
What I am suggesting is why not create another system image', create another 'repair Disc', & then try to do a backup. If you do not have that issue fixed, you have nothing to lose by trying this, right?Read More ...
Backup image errors: 0x81000037, 0x8007000D and 0x8000ffff

It won't create an 'Image Disk' either and I can't do 'Backup' it fails with '0x81000037' a problem with [JUNCTION] 'reparse points' again the explanation/fix is incomprehensible to even the most enlightened ones.
